For this collection, I captured the movement and patterns of the ocean waves on the shallow shores and the deeper terrains of the underwater world.
I named the three sets of glazes: "deep blue", "rust" and "foam". As for the technique, I used dark reclaimed slip clay to create the wave-like textures.
Rust is an everyday phenomena. Iron Oxide is often use to make pottery glazes. Using iron oxide is very common for functional pottery. It is food safe as it is a very stable component.
This is the closest I could come to creating a "foam" look. Monochrome and simple, the body is made with reclaimed clay, brushed with B3 Laguna dark clay. Finally, after the first firing I applied white satin glaze allowing the different clay types to do their own magic.
